The son of Morris Edwards and Malinda (Fox) Edwards. Married 6 Jan 1853 in Johnson Co., MO to Louisa Lundy. She died at age 20. He married 2nd on 2 Jan 1868 to Matilda Melvina (unk) Frazier. His family arrived in Rio Grande County, CO by 1880 along with his brother Joseph Hiram and family. Joseph may have died in Colorado before 1900. Elbert and Matilda were in Delta Co., CO by 1900. They had the following children:
Malinda Ella, Margaret, Wood, Minnie, Maud, Bessie M., Harry D., Lutie M., Irene M., Clarence, and Nellie B. Edwards.

Elbert was a Confederate Army Civil War veteran. CO. A, 16th Missouri Infantry.
